COVID-19 Update and changes to operations
The constantly changing government restrictions on the operation of bars and restaurants have a direct impact on the club. The limited bar and galley service we have been offering is changed again with immediate effect.
Whilst the bar is closed the operation of the galley can stay as it has been. People can order from the galley counter and the products will be delivered to the table and payment taken. Payment is preferably by contactless card payment.
When the bar is open then the club must be entirely table service. The bar person will circulate round the tables asking for orders. They will go and make the order and deliver to the table. No galley service is available at this time. Payment is again to be taken at the table.
The clubhouse itself is still open and people can enter and sit at a table to eat and drink items brought to the club OR bought from the gallley. However, the following rules must apply:
- When you arrive at the club you must record your entry in the track and trace log. This has changed from a sheet of paper to individual pieces of paper due to GDPR concerns. Please put the date/Time and names and phone numbers for each person. Please place the completed paper into the Track and Trace postbox near the front door.
- When moving around in the clubhouse YOU MUST WEAR A MASK, unless you have a medical reason not to do so. If you sit inside the clubhouse you can then take off your mask whilst you are seated.
- Please observe the "rule of 6" and limit your contact to a group of people of six or less including yourself. Do not mingle between groups.
- If you are in isolation because of a suspected or confirmed positive test, please do not attend the club.
- If you feel you may have symptoms of Covid-19 please do not attend the club, isolate at home and get a test.
Please be considerate of other club members and maintain social distancing where possible. Where you can't keep 2 metres apart please wear a mask. We will get through this together.
Multimover Crowdfunding Appeal
Thank you to everyone who has felt able to support this club initiative. We've raised over £600 of the £2,500 we need, so there's still a long way to go. Please pledge support here.
Annual General Meeting 2020
Obviously we have a problem offering our usual combination of free hot food, open bar and AGM this year. Last night, the committee agreed to start looking at a system called ElectionBuddy that has been used by other sailing clubs to hold successful "Virtual AGM's". Over the next week or so I will be testing it out on members. I am specifically look to people not OK with online technology as we need to ensure that everyone is able to have their say. Please talk to me if you're willing to be a guinea pig.
SUP Members duties
I know it's still ages before 2021 (not), but we do need to think about how we get people allocated to duties on the Friday afternoon/evening SUP sessions we are planning to run. We need SUP members to sign up to do RYA PB2 courses, so that as and when we are able to run these courses we have a list of volunteers. You can then operate of fleet of safety boats. The places on the course are usually limited and heavily subsidised by the club at around £80. This is an amazing price, for a course that lets you hire a powerboat up to 9 metres in length and venture up to 12 miles offshore!!
We also need SUP members to volunteer for the bar committee. This is a committee in name only with no meetings; it's a requirement of our liquor license from Staffordshire Moorlands council. You will be trained on how to open the bar and serve drinks. In normal years there's also the opportunity to serve on the 10-12 weddings we host at the club. These are events that members are paid to staff, so if you fancy a few extra pounds (and to be honest theyre also fantastic fun) get in touch with me or Janey Hill.
The club are trying to fill the funding gap from the lack of weddings in 2020. One of the new initiatives is the Yoga session now available on Tuesday mornings and evenings. As a very inflexible yoga novice I think they are great and afterwards I do feel more flexible. And let's face it, anything that hurts so much the next day must be good for me 😂.
One note to members. Please avoid disrupting the yoga classes by not entering the clubhouse on Tuesdays 09:30-10:30 & 19:00 - 20:00. Obviously the clubhouse is open as usual at other times. More info and how to book for a session is available at https://www.yuliyahighamyoga.com/.
