Thinking about learning to sail? Rudyard Lake Sailing Club is an RYA Recognised Training Centre, running both RYA approved courses and junior training sessions throughout the season for all ages and ability levels.

Jybaz offers young children the chance to gain confidence in the water and have fun at a new hobby whilst staying safe. Children of all skill levels are welcome. You don’t need to have your own boat to join in the fun as the Club has a range of boats that are used for training on the Jybaz days. We welcome all age ranges from 6 to 18 to join the team. You are never too young to start.

There is an active racing scene at the club, with a number of racing series throughout the year for all levels of experience.

These are informal sessions where members can sail, SUP or windsurf knowing that there is safety boat cover available. There is usually coaching and support available if you want or need it.

Two people enjoying paddleboarding on Rudyard Lake

Rudyard Lake is a superb location for stand-up paddleboarding. At over 2.5 miles long, it has some of the most dramatic scenery in Staffordshire Moorlands and a hugely varied shore with open farmland at one end, inlets to explore, the railway down one side and the earth dam where the lake feeds the local canal system for which the lake was built.

Busy clubhouse and bar following a day on the water

We have a superb clubhouse with fully licensed bar, commercial kitchen, spacious ladies', men's and family shower rooms and central heating throughout.

Rudyard Ruminations

Rudyard Ruminations 7th April 2021

Evening all,
Well the Easter regatta was exciting, until it became too exciting!  The HRO took the decision that the winds were too strong and the number of boats blowing over was against the spirit of the covid guidelines.  Well done to Henry, who as he won Day 1 of the regatta also won the overall regatta.

The sailing and SUPing seasons will now get underway in earnest with tonights racing starting the Wednesday A race series.

A local photographer (Pauls Photography) took the image above, and a fair few others.  Check them out at the following link:
e's kindly offered to send people the high res images if anyone wants them.  I think they're superb!!  He's contactable at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

A massive thank you to Mike, Lucas and Natalie Barrow.  After seeing the transformation of the coffee shop area the committee decided to follow the colour themes through the ground floor.  Mike, Lucas and Natalie have spent the bulk of the last two days filling, sanding and painting the walls.  And that was after Mike coming off a late shift and on call!  Jane, Mike and Lucas and Natalie are coming back tomorrow to finish the job.  The downstairs will look very smart.  What I think we need now is a member photographer to take some Sailing and SUP pictures and we can update some of our photograps to compliment the more historic images we have.  I feel a competition coming on!!

A select crew got together safely to pressure wash and clean up the topper fleet in preparation for the next Jybaz on Saturday.  Tricia, Ralph, Kieran and others (I was busy inside) were joined by a new member Adrian and Poppy.  I'm sure Ade and his family will be happy at the club and we'll be happy to have him (he's a PB2)! 🤣

Stay safe

P.S.  The Galley Coffee Shop opens on Tuesday 13th April.  You can follow us on Facebook by searching for "The Galley Coffee Shop" or sign up at  Again, thanks to everyone who has helped in the transformation of the area.  Fingers crossed it's a success.
